Our story is one of family

Frank “The Chief” Corrigan relocated to Dearborn, Michigan, in 1923, lured by the $5 daily wage promised by Ford Motor Company. At Ford, Frank worked 3^rd shift on the Ford farms performing a mix of varying jobs – at times even driving Henry Ford himself. The Chief was driven, and in the daylight hours when he wasn’t working at Ford he ran an ice delivery company with his brother. When the Great Depression hit, Frank used his trucks to serve families forced from their homes move their belongings.

And thus, Corrigan Moving Systems was born.

World War II brought about a new challenge to Frank and Corrigan Moving on account of the difficulty finding workers while the war was going on. Frank’s eldest son, Paul Corrigan, was summoned back from the Air Force in 1945 to assist his family and the family company. Paul had ambitions of getting a degree at a university. Instead, he took over the company, going through what he termed the “school of hard knocks”.

Paul was a talented leader, and under his guidance Corrigan started to grow. In 1949, Corrigan joined United Van Lines because the idea of partnering with an agency-owned van line appealed to Paul. The co-op structure gives family-owned companies, like Corrigan, a voice in the strategy of the van line.

During the following four decades, the Corrigan family grew beside the business. Paul married Kathleen O’Hehir in 1954 and together they brought up six kids. While growing up all six children worked at Corrigan in some regard, either on the trucks or in the office.

In 1969 Corrigan started its second warehouse in Ann Arbor, Michigan and operated as a two-warehouse company for the next 15 years. Starting in 1984, they started a rapid eight-year growth and procurement phase. New locations were started in Auburn Hills, Toledo, Flint, Bay City and Grand Rapids. In 1987, Corrigan bought a new office in Farmington Hills and relocated their headquarters from the Dearborn office.

In 1995, Paul’s sons were promoted to the executive positions at the organization.

Corrigan Moving has always been open to growth possibilities that would help improve its quality and service reach. Two excellent possibilities became available to David Corrigan. So, in 2003, a branch was added in Rochester, New York. Then a Chicago, Illinois location came in 2006. These were the first Corrigan branches in each of these states. More advancement brought a warehouse in Cleveland, Ohio; and in 2018, a location was opened in Buffalo, New York. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania warehouse joined in 2022.

As Corrigan has advanced, it has also grown its services. No longer hauling ice, Corrigan now handles a broad variety of solutions such as household goods moving, commercial and office relocations, record storage, systems furniture assembly and disassembly, logistics, and international freight forwarding.

Today, the Corrigan employees continue to honor Frank’s original code of ethics. And because of that, we have expanded into the most respected moving company in the nation.
